Beautiful hotel in great monsoon forest location.
Proximity to Menjangan Island and wonderful snorkelling among coral and tropical fish.
The Menjangan Resort is a little off the beaten track for most travellers to Bali, but well worth it! The North West of Bali is very different to the South - relatively few tourists and a much lower population density. We felt like we could relax and see Bali the way it may have been 50 years ago.
The staff at the resort, like everywhere we travelled in Bali, were very friendly and helpful and loved to help our six-year old son. The pool at the Monsoon Forest resort was a perfect way to cool down after a day of exploring.

make the most of your stay by taking advantage of the snorkelling, kayaking and trekking activities (all of which our 6 year old enjoyed)and please try the whole red snapper at the bali tower restaurant -the best meal i had in bali!
Great location but restaurant to far.
We stayed at the Monsoon Lodge, this is a bit of a rip off for the price, we were miles from the beach, i had the impression we were close to the beach. They were very good though, they upgraded us to a room on the beach for our last night, these rooms were gorgeous. The food was very plain, after 3 nights eating from the same restaurant, we were sick of it, no spices. Have to get a lift everywhere as beach and restaurant are miles away. So spend a lot of time waiting around. My partner is a birdwatcher he spotted around 30 birds which is really good for asia. The canoeing was good but we could only go for an hour without a guide we wanted it for half a day but couldnt do, things expensive, tours etc...
Peaceful stay in the middle of Bali's nature
I must say I do not fully understand all of the negative comments on Tripadvisor. Sure, there is much to improve but the hotel's environment is really stunning. The hotel is in the middle of the forest and also has a secluded beach with mangroves.
We did the snorkeling tour to Menjangan Island which was lovely. The other tours the hotel offers seem too expensive (trekking with guide,...). I think it is worthwhile to look for alternatives (outside of the hotel) before checking in.
We stayed at the monsoon lodge. Rooms were clean and big but lacked some decorations and were way too dark (even with the 2 extra light they put in the room) They should also use better pest control. We were also shown the new beach villas (which cost about double of the rooms at monsoon lodge). They look nice but we noticed that there were still construction works going on causing noise pollution.
The restaurant is actually in the "Bali Tower" which is a marvelous wooden construction which gives panorama over the forest. I regret to say that the food served in this beautiful tower was really disappointing as was the lack of atmosphere (no candles, music,...).
Despite these negative points, I would certainly return to this peaceful place although I think I would spend the extra money for the beach villas (once completely finished).
If you are looking to party or shopping, don't go there.
